WHAT YOU NEED
- Foods beginning with each letter of the alphabet
- Serving spoons and forks
- Paper plates, paper cups and napkins
- Plastic knives, forks and spoons
- Paper or plastic table cloth
- "Thank You Teacher" banner (Instructions below)
- Disposable camera (optional)
- Heavy-duty construction paper
- Set of alphabet stencils (about 3 1/2 inches high)
- Colored markers
- Cellophane tape
HOW TO DO IT
- Talk to your child's room mother about having an end-of-the-year thank you lunch for his or her teacher.
- Find out if you can have it in the classroom. If not, choose a convenient place for everyone. You might go to a nearby park.
- Have each child in the class pick one letter from the alphabet and bring food to the potluck that corresponds to that letter. (Please see template.)
- Cut out 26 - 4 inch by 6 inch rectangles out of white construction paper; use alphabet stencils to trace one letter of the alphabet onto each rectangle. Leave approximately 2 inches at the bottom for the name on the dish.
- When the children bring in their food, help them to write the name of their dish on the matching card. For example: if the child has brought Dill Pickles, find the "D" card and help him write the word "Dill Pickles" under the stenciled letter "D." Then, prop the card next to the dish using a small piece of cellophane tape to attach, if necessary.
- Help the class make a "THANK YOU TEACHER" Banner that each child can sign.
