WHAT YOU NEED
28 empty 4.23 oz NESTLÉ JUICY JUICE boxes
Black spray paint (or any color that you choose)
1/2 inch round self adhesive labels (available at office supply stores)
1 1/2 inch wide, white self adhesive labels
HOW TO DO IT
Make sure each JUICY JUICE box is completely dry.
In a well-ventilated area, spray the boxes with black spray paint. Let dry.
To make each domino, cut the rectangular labels so that they are 1/8 inch high by 1 1/2 inches wide. Stick them right in the #162er of one side of the box, to divide both sides evenly.
Print out the
Dominoes diagram
.
Have your child follow the diagram to adhere the correct number of adhesive rounds to each half of the domino.
HOW TO PLAY
Place all of the dominoes face down on the table and mix them well.
Each player takes 5 dominoes.
Stand the domino pieces up with the dots facing each player.
The remaining dominoes become the draw pile.
Ask each player to draw one domino from the draw pile. The player who draws the highest double domino (the same number in each side) places it in the #162er of the table to begin the game. If no double is drawn, return all of the dominoes to the draw pile remix and have each player draw again.
The player to the left tries to match one of his dominoes to either side of the double domino. For example, if the double is a five, the second player may add one of his dominos that contains five dots. (see diagram) The next player may play on the other side of the double five or match the end of the domino that the second player played.
Players match ends of the dominoes but may play to either end or to either side of a double.
If a player cannot match the dots at any open end, he must pick from the draw pile until he is able to match an open number.
Play continues until one player has used all of his dominoes or until no one can play.
The player with no dominos, or the least number of dots counted on his remaining dominos, is the winner.
TIPS
A fun alternative to these dominoes would be to paint them in several different colors.
FOLLOW UP FUN
Younger children will have fun using these JUICY JUICE Dominoes to make patterns and match the numbers. This is great groundwork for addition and subtraction.
