HOW TO DO IT
When planning a child's birthday, follow these helpful tips:
- A few weeks before the party:
- Decide on the date, number of guests and time and length of the party.
- Discuss possible themes with your child, such as a party based on his or her favorite movie or cartoon character, a special interest or particular sport.
- If you are planning on outside entertainment (clown, magician, etc.) make those arrangements.
- Purchase or make invitations based on the theme, and have your child help address and mail them.
- Decide on where to hold the party; at home, a park, restaurant, etc.
- Decide on the activities and games for the party.
- Plan the menu. Think about the theme, but keep the menu simple.
- A few days before the party:
- Plan a timeline for the party. Decide when to eat lunch or a snack, when to play games and begin activities, when to open gifts, etc.
- Purchase or make decorations, and gather items needed for games and activities.
- Make up "goodie bags" or party favors if you are planning on giving them out. Include treats like NESTLé TOLL HOUSE CANDY BARS.
- Purchase or bake and decorate the cake.
- The day of the party:
- Put out the decorations, prepare the food.
- Enjoy the party!
TIPS
- Involve your child in as much of the preparation as possible.
- Plan on the party lasting no more than two-three hours.
- For children under 6 years old, avoid choosing competitive games. For any age group, having everyone win something is a good rule to follow.
