WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 lid from a 48.7 oz. NESQUIK canister
  • 8 yards of 1 inch wide decorative ribbon
  • Cotton twist cord (about 7 feet long)
  • 1 utility knife
  • Leather lacing
  • Multicolored pony beads
  • Craft glue gun
  • Safety Scissors
  • Ruler
All of the items above can be purchased at a craft store.

HOW TO DO IT

  • Print out diagram.

  • Clean and dry a lid from a 48.7 oz. NESQUIK canister.

  • (PARENTS ONLY) Using a utility knife, cut along the inside rim of the lid, leaving a ring.

  • Wrap ribbon around the plastic ring. Secure with a craft glue gun.

  • Follow the diagram to create the Dream Catcher web from the cotton cord.

  • Roll cotton cord loosely into a ball. Tie one end of the cotton cord around the ring then secure the knot with a craft glue gun.

  • Tie six half hitch knots every three inches around the ring. Pinch each completed knot as you begin the next, so that it remains taut.

  • Add a half hitch knot next to the knot where you began. Then begin tying half hitches in the middle of the cord you already added.

  • Continue until you complete a total of three or four more circles of half hitch knots.

  • Double knot the cord in the #162er of the webbing then seal knot with a craft glue gun, if necessary. Cut off excess cord.

  • Cut five 10 inch lengths of leather lacing.

  • Thread two beads at each end of the lacing and then knot the ends.

  • Holding the knot ends together of one 10" length, insert one the loop end through ring at the top. Draw the knot ends through loop and pull tight. See diagram

  • Use a craft glue gun to secure a feather to each end of the leather laces.

FOLLOW UP FUN

  • Visit the library with your children and check out books about Native American legends.

  • Let them share one or two legends that they found most interesting at the dinner table.
