WHAT TO SAY
Talk to your children about Martin Luther King.
Every year on the third Monday of January we close our schools and offices to celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King who is remembered for his fight for freedom and dignity of all people, #174ardless of their race.
In his famous “I Have A Dream” speech he said: “I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” (Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C., August 28, 1963)

Cut out 2 – 6 inch square pieces of light blue craft foam for the front and back covers.
With a 1-hole punch, make holes in each cover where indicated.
Cut out one cloud from white craft foam.
Cut 3 small dots out of the white craft foam. They should be about 1/4 inch across (see image).
Using a hot glue gun, help your child assemble the cloud, adding the white dots in a diagonal line at the bottom right.
Use the template to print out several scrapbook pages onto card stock or construction paper.
With a 1-hole punch, make holes in each page where indicated.
Assemble the covers and scrapbook pages and fasten them together through the punched holes with a small key ring or narrow ribbon.
Using a permanent marker or paint pen, help your child to write the words “I have a dream ” inside the white cloud.
Using a paint pen or marker, they can put their name at the bottom of the book as well.
Talk to your child about dreams they have for the future, or things they would like to see changed in their school or community. Ask them to write each dream that they have on a page of the book. Little ones can draw picture and dictate their dreams for you to write.
