Making a sand cast of your child's hand or foot is a fun project for a day at the beach!
More on
WHAT YOU NEED
1 – 21.8 oz. NESQUIK canister
Plaster of Paris
Plastic spoon
Sand
4 inch length of nylon rope (for each print)
HOW TO DO IT
Before your next outing to the beach or sandy lake-front, pack up the items above for a fun outdoor project as well as a record of your child's foot or hand size.
Choose a spot where the sand is just moist enough for your child to make an easy indentation in the sand with their hands or feet.
Mix the plaster of Paris into the empty NESQUIK canister according to package directions. You will want it to be thick and creamy.
Now pour the mixed plaster carefully into the sand prints.
If you want to make a hanger for the print, knot each end of the nylon rope and gently set the knotted ends into the print as it begins to dry.
The sand prints should be dry enough to dig out of the sand in about 15 to 20 minutes. Gently dust off any excess sand and set out in the sun to harden further.
TIPS
You may choose to use the hand as a paperweight and in this case you will not need to add the hanger.
