Mother of Gold

Lodie Q., Lillington, NC | 05-20-2010

My favorite Mother's Day Memory is being in the kitchen with my mother helping her to prepare the Mother's Day Meal. Even though it was Mother's Day she always had to have her own food prepared. My mother celebrated life everyday, and we celebrated my mother everyday.

My favorite Mother's Day is when my daughter surprized me with Broadway tickets to The Boy From Oz. It was the very best play EVER and I got to meet Hugh Jackman at the stage door!

It's positive!

Denise B., West Jordan, UT | 04-23-2010

My husband and I had finally decided to have a baby. We purposely didn't want a January birthday because it's a hectic month for us, so when May came along I didn't think there was a chance I'd be pregnant. My counsin and I were planning to run the Race for the Cure. We were talking one day about our prepardness and our plan's for Mother's Day since it was the day after the race. She mentioned that she thought she might be pregnant and disclosed that I too might be, since at that point I was a few days late. We decided on a signal to give each other at the race if we thought we still might be. After the race both our thumbs were up. The next morning was Mother's day. I couldn't wait to find out. I jumped out of bed in the morning and took the test. Sure enough, it was positive. I called to my husband, still lying in bed, from the bathroom. He propped his head up and said "really?" We found out I was pregnant with our second on Father's day two years later!

It's a keeper!!!

Therese C., Greenfield, IA | 04-23-2010

My fourth and final child was born just before Mothers Day in 1985.When I brought him home from the hospital, understandably the others were jealous. They spent the first 3 days avoiding contact and talking quietly amongst themselves. The morning of Mothers Day, that all changed as they ran into my room to cuddle with the new arrival. They simply said, "Happy mommys day....he's cute enough that you can keep him!".....I am proud to say the have never regretted their decision.

The Mother's Ring (finally....!)

DEBBIE E., Lancaster, CA | 04-23-2010

For years my mother had hinted (not too subtly!) that she wanted a Mother's Ring. Every year on Mother's Day she would open her gifts, thrilled with them, but slightly disappointed also. Finally, all five of us kids were old enough to have decent paying jobs. On that Mother's Day we gathered with our families and presented our Mother with a HUGE box...with a smaller...then smaller...then smaller...then smaller box inside. Finally, glued to the bottom of the last box was the box with The Mother's Ring! Mom cried most of the rest of the afternoon. Any of us kids, spouses, or the grandkids, who were near got hugged as the tears flowed. It was definately worth the wait.

2005 Mother's Day

Marilyn E., Weirton, WV | 04-23-2010

My 1st mother's day was in 2005. I brought home my 16 month old baby boy on April 22nd, 2005 from Ukraine. As I always tell my son, God knew there was a 16 month old boy in Ukraine that needed a mother & I was in US in need of a child. To be able to hold my son & celebrate everyday with him is a blessing. Being able to be called a Mom was very special for me & still is & always will be.

Mother's Day at the Renaissance Faire

Norma S., Medford, OR | 04-22-2010

I was fortunate to get to spend several Mother's Days at the Ren. Faire with my kids who are now adults. My favorite was when my son was working at the Faire and I got to climb the Rock Wall. Never stop having fun with your kids --- no matter the age --- they are still your kids! (I'll never grow up!!!)

It was Mothers Day in Maine around 1960-- we had green grass and blooming flowers--but that day when we woke up--IT HAD SNOWED. Not much about an inch or so--so my sisters and I went outside and Made a Snowwoman for our Mom -- she was all decked out with a spring hat and flowers in her hands-- Best of all our Mom loved it

My Favorite Mothers Day Moment

stephanie c., San bernardino, CA | 04-20-2010

Last mothers day my husband had each one of my three boys bring me a single yellow rose and then he brought me a dozen red roses. They cleaned the house and pampered me all day. It was wonderful. Then at the end of the day they each brought me a small gift they made with some chocolates. It made me really feel special.

Blueberry Cake

Gail F., Knightdale, NC | 04-19-2010

This is just a simple story but my favorite. For mothers day my sons kindergarten teacher asked each child what their favorite thing their mother made and how she made it and put all their recipes together into a cookbook for mothers day. My son said Blueberry cake, however I have never made Blueberry cake only Blueberry Pie and all the recipes were so cute and definately in accurate but still to this day I treasure the day he was so proud to give me this with a picture he had drawn for the cover and for us to spend the day in the kitchen cooking together.

My First Mother's Day

PAULINE R., Fort Myers, FL | 04-18-2010

I was at work and a bouquet of flowers in a coffee cup (There's a special love between a Mother and Daughter) was delivered to me. The card said it was from my daughter, who was only 10 months old! I knew it wasn't from her personally, but it was so special that my office did that for us. I still have that cup, almost 18 years later! Whenever I use it, I feel that special bond between us, which we do have.

Best Mother's Day

Michele F., Charleston, SC | 04-18-2010

I think every mother has the same "best Mother's days". It is the Mother's day when you find out you are pregnant, the first Mother's day after each of your babies is born, and every Mother's day you have your children with you. All of these are my BEST Mother's day. My children has always been the center of our world; I most enjoy though simple treasures - a smile, hug or a thanks. These are the gifts that make me feel special everyday especially on Mother's day.

Tea Cup for Mom

Anna W., Lindenhurst, IL | 04-17-2010

I did some work with the elderly of our church. One woman that I would visit all the time would have tea and cakes for us. She always made sure to give me her favorite tea cup while she drank from whatever mug she had. She told me a story about her tea cup and said every woman should have their own special one. I shared the story with my husband, and he thought it was wonderful. Quite some time later, my husband and I were killing time in an antique shop and I happened to spot the tea cups. There were so many beautiful ones, but one stood out as the best. It was a fancy china tea cup with yellow roses on it. Yellow roses were my grandmother's favorite. I stood and admired it for a good long time. When my husband came over and asked what I was doing, I told him that I would love to have my own tea cup someday, and I would like one like the yellow roses one. Being too expensive, I did not get it, but the very next mother's day, my husband and children gave it to me.

Small Hands Big Hearts

Teresa K., Willow, AK | 04-16-2010

My three eldest children are 12 to 16 years older than my youngest child Kyle who is now 12. When Kyle was just three years old his sister and brothers: Stephanie,David and Travis then 16, 14 and 13 years old decided to do something special for mothers day.At the time I was a real estate agent and that meant I was gone in the evenings quiet often. One evening I was out showing property and I called home to let the kids know that I would be later than planned and to make some top ramen for dinner. When I arrived home about 7PM I walked into a clean house with a set table. My children had made a pot of chicken and dumplings. The recipe I used for dumplings calls for nutmeg but I never use nutmeg as I do not like it. The kids did not know this fact and they had added the nutmeg. I still cry when I think of that day because I told them I dont use nutmeg and even tho I followed that with but this is delicious it was too late. I ruined the moment.

Suprized on Mother's Day

Audre B., Mesa, AZ | 04-16-2010

It was a time when some of my children lived in Alaska and California and I was feeling a little lonely that day. What a surprise when they all were ushered into the same row where we were sitting in the church we attended in Renton, Washington. I about burst with joy and pride. It was about the best Mother's Day I ever had.

Also since I was told I'd never have children, Thomas is a blessing from Heavenly Father. He is on his 2nd tour in Iraq. I just dote on the little girls.

You Gotta love them

Dawn m., richmond, IN | 04-15-2010

most special mother's day memories was when my son and daughter now 25 and 27 were around five and six years old. I have rhematoid arthritus and my children knew it took mommy a while to move around in the mourning. I usually tried to get up early enough so I would be limber enough when the childen awoke. But seeing this was mothers day my husband had told me to sleep in and he would take care of things. well he decided he would go down to the family resturaunt and bring a nice already made breakfast home and surprise me. some how the kids woke up before he came back and decided to surprise us both by fixing moma brekfast in bed.well they had milk, eggs, pancake mix you name it everywhere . my husband comes in with his surprize he slips feet fly out from under him flowers go everywhere kids stand back with a look there face they salvage what they could brought it to me gave me my gifts. and with a serious look on there face said (mom, do you still clean the kitchen on mothers day)

Simple Mother's Day

Sherry G., Smyrna, TN | 04-15-2010

My best mother's day was when my children gave me simple homemade cards. They both said the same thing. "I love you Mom." Although with the spelling I took me a minute to figure out what they said. Over the years the cards got better and soon presents came with the cards, but the simple homemade cards they gave me are the best.

Memories Of Mother's Day

Beverly P., Moreno Valley, CA | 04-12-2010

All of them have been good. My daughter makes sure of that. Since her dad was killed I think she has taken on the task of making sure that every Mother's Day is memoriable. She hasn't had any kids of her own but has been a foster mom for 17yrs. I love my daughter and wish she could have as many memoriable Mother's Days as she has given me.
