Have a roaring good time at a prehistoric party! Little archeologists will love this event, - digging up dinosaur bones and hunting for dinosaur "eggs". Dinosaurs are back from extinction at this Dino-mite Dinosaur Party!

Invitations

WHAT YOU NEED
  • Invitation templates
  • Safety scissors
  • 2 - 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheets of heavy white laser paper for each invitation (available at office stores)
  • 1 brass brad for each invitation (available at stationary or office store)
  • Crayons
  • Pen
HOW TO DO IT
  • Print one set of invitation templates for each guest.
  • Cut out the egg shapes. Fasten the two halves with a brass brad.
  • Cut out the dinosaur shape and fill in the party information. Then let your child color the dinosaur.
  • Glue the completed dinosaur to the moveable egg and deliver to each party guest.

DECORATING IDEAS

Raptor Room

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Black poster board
  • Dinosaur footprint template
  • Safety scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Rolls of green crepe paper
  • Brown wrapping paper
  • Several small houseplants in 4 inch pots (ferns or pothos)
  • Plastic toy dinosaurs (available at party stores)
HOW TO DO IT
  • Use the template to cut out large dinosaur footprints from black poster board.
  • Use double-sided tape to place the footprints outside leading to the front entrance. Continue the footprints into the house, placing them along the walls and halls.
  • Decorate the party room with green streamers to resemble the jungle. Create rocks and vines from brown wrapping paper.
  • Create a centerpiece for your table with several small houseplants. Place toy plastic dinosaurs around the greenery.

PARTY FUN

Dinosaur Egg Hunt

Children will love hunting for baby dinosaur eggs, and the best part is the surprise they'll find inside!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 Plastic egg for each guest
  • Small plastic dinosaurs ( 2-3 for each egg)
HOW TO DO IT
  • In advance, fill the plastic eggs and hide them around the house or yard.
  • Invite the guests to hunt around the "dinosaur nesting area" to find an "egg."
  • Once they all find a an egg, invite the children to "hatch" their egg and find the surprises inside.

Extinction

A fun twist on Musical Chairs! Don't face extinction!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Carpet squares (available at hardware stores)
  • Pictures of dinosaurs (from a dinosaur coloring book)
  • Music (peppy beat)
HOW TO DO IT
  • Place carpet squares on the floor in a circle.
  • Velcro(R) a picture of a dinosaur onto each square.
  • Play music as the children walk from one square to the next.
  • One dinosaur becomes extinct each time the music stops. (Take a square away.) Whoever does not have a square to stand on becomes extinct too!
  • The last player left standing on a square wins.

Dinosaur Dig

Calling all archeologists! This excavation requires some delicate hands for a fossil find! 

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 1 box of bone shaped dog biscuits
  • Plastic toy dinosaurs
  • A sand pit (kiddy pool filled with sand or dirt)
  • Sand shovels, and paint brushes.
  • Safari hats and plastic binoculars (available at party stores)

HOW TO DO IT

  • Hide the "fossils" (dog biscuits and toy dinosaurs) in a sand pit "quarry."
  • Have the children wear archeologist (safari) hats and use plastic binoculars as they search for dinosaur bones!
  • Invite the children to excavate their fossil finds using sand shovels, and paint brushes to dust things off. 

FUN FOOD IDEAS

Carnivore Café

Carnivores and herbivores will delight in this meal fit for a dinosaur!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Dino Menu Card Template
  • 1 craft stick for each food item
  • Cellophane tape
  • Brontosaurus Burgers
  • Dino Dogs (hot dogs)
  • Brachio Beans (baked beans)
  • Fossil Fries (potato chips)
  • Prehistoric Pretzels
  • Deviled Dino Eggs
  • Herbivore Delight (fruit and veggie tray)
  • Swamp Water (JUICY JUICE)
  • Dinosaur Mud Dessert (see recipe below)
HOW TO DO IT
  • Print out enough Dino Menu Cards so that you have one for each food item served.
  • Write one food item onto each card and cut out.
  • Tape each Menu Card to a craft stick.
  • Place the food on the table that you decorated with toy dinosaurs and position a Dino Menu card next to each platter.
  • Invite all of the hungry archeologists to "dig in".


Dinosaur Mud Dessert

Children will love munching on "mud" for a delectable treat!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Clear 4 oz. plastic cups
  • Prepared chocolate pudding
  • SweeTARTS Gummy Bugs
  • Chocolate cookie crumbs 
HOW TO DO IT
  • SPOON a layer of pudding into clear plastic cups.
  • ADD a few SweeTARTS Gummy Bugs and cover with chocolate cookie crumbs.


TIPS

  • Make small birthday hats for the little toy dinosaurs on the buffet table. Use pieces of construction paper cut into cone shapes to fit each dinosaur head. Top off each little hat with a tiny pom-pom (available at craft stores).


FOLLOW UP FUN

  • Check to see if your local museum has a dinosaur display and take the family. Comparing pictures with to-scale replicas of the real thing will show your children just how large these prehistoric creatures really were.
  • Collect pamphlets from the museum and have your child make a little book about "My Day with the Dinosaurs".
